When he's not napping, you can find him perched by the window, watching birds flutter by with curiosity. River is 8 years old and was saved from a shelter euthanasia list in May of 2024. About Us Saving Lives Since 2018 Save the Kitties BH4LP is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, no-kill cat rescue located in Derby, KS. We are committed to making a difference in our community by saving lives. Our mission is to Rescue, Rehabilitate and Rehome cats. Advocate and Educate to help create a more humane com munity, enhancing the lives of our four-footed frien ds. Our Story Big Hearts 4 Little Paws Foundation, also known as Save the Kitties, was established in May of 2018 and has since grown into a cat saving force to be reckoned with. We are a fully volunteer ran nonprofit that runs solely on the donations of our amazing supporters. We started off spaying female pregnant cats in a mobile home park located in south Wichita Kansas, and soon after, started fostering kittens and finding them homes out of a converted 12x12 shed. We now have a public building where adopters can come and meet our cats and kittens available for adoption. That being said, we save most of our cats from Wichita Animal Shelter’s euthanasia list and also take in owner surrenders in the case it is needed. Many of the animals we save are often very sick or neglected. We see so many cats with upper respiratory infections, ringworm, feline leukemia, and just so many heart breaking illnesses that take time to heal. We strive to let our cats and kittens have full recovery time in a clean, safe environment that has plenty of enrichment and amenities. One thing that is very important to us is that healthy cats do not spend time locked up in kennels and we like to have most of our cats who are waiting on forever homes free roaming in their own suite with other sociable and friendly cats. Aside from the cats, we also have a great diversity of volunteers young and old who love animals just as much as we do. After Adoption Meet Azizi, the Brave Little Survivor! Once upon a time, in a world too overwhelmed with cats, there lived a tiny 4-week-old kitten named Azizi. She was just one of many in a hoarding situation, where the love and care every kitten deserves had sadly gone missing. Due to the neglect, a simple eye infection turned into a heartbreaking series of events, leading to the rupture of both her eyes. However, fate had other plans for Azizi. Rescued by our dedicated team at Save the Kitties, she found herself in the loving hands of our president and founder. For weeks, she received round-the-clock care, gentle cuddles, and all the medical attention she desperately needed. As Azizi grew stronger and larger, the day finally came for her enucleation surgery. The staff at the vet clinic were captivated by her spirit, and they rallied around her with warm hearts and eager hands. Everyone adored this little warrior, and her resilience inspired all who met her. After her surgery, Azizi didn’t just survive; she thrived! She was soon adopted by a compassionate assistant at the clinic, who instantly saw the spark within her. Now affectionately renamed Stevie Rae, she stepped into her new life filled with love and adventure. Stevie Rae quickly learned to navigate the world using her other senses to her advantage. She loves napping with her mom after a long day of playful exploration, seeking out anything that jingles to keep her entertained. Whether it’s chasing after a toy or simply enjoying the warmth of a sunny spot, Stevie Rae embraces life with joy and determination! Today, Stevie Rae teaches us all an essential lesson: Strength comes in many forms, and love can heal even the deepest wounds.
